Wait for light

Why do we celebrate fall
when it’s a season of death
a time of falling decay
a reversal of sweet life
a trail toward the freeze…
Silence my heart
freeze my heart
things will get better
with the light
things will get better
after the fall
the decay
and everything’s composted down
to waste.
But I won’t give in to the dust:
hibernate till dawn,
fight the fight
whether it’s good or not,
and don’t give up
five times from Winston Churchill.
I want to let it go
hearts crunch down like foliage
rumble down
till there is no noise left.
There
I wait for the light.
